Decor foils on PET and polyolefin
Covalent adhesion on standard PET and PP foils with a one-component UV primer — no pre-treated film, no 2K primer, no isocyanates. Lacquer or print directly, in-line or later.
PET and polypropylene are difficult to coat. In UV lines the usual answers are a 2K isocyanate primer or film that has been pre-treated by the film maker — both add cost, and pre-treated film ties you to a few suppliers.
Duoprime® PET and Duoprime® P are one-component UV primers that bond covalently to the film surface. They are applied thin on a standard gravure or roller coater and activated with the Hg lamps already in the line. The next layer — a UV or EB lacquer, or a UV ink — is attached directly to the activated surface. On PET the activation lasts: primed film can be lacquered, printed or glued months later, so you can prime and finish in-line, or prime standard film for later coating.
Compared with a 2K primer the process is simpler to run: no pot life, no mixing, and a line stop costs no more than a restart. Compared with pre-treated film you buy standard BOPET, PETg, rPET or PP and add the adhesion in your own line — and for wrapped profiles the covalent bond survives small bend radii without cracking.
