Duoprime M Surface Activator

Duoprime® M is a 1K thin UV-reactive surface activator for melamine. It converts inert melamine groups on the surface into reactive acrylate groups, creating covalent adhesion between the melamine and the next coating layer with minimal layer build. Applied at 1–3 g/m² in standard roller coaters, it is the most cost-efficient primer for high-performance melamine coating systems — from thin structured super-matte and digitally embossed laminates to high-gloss finishes. Unlike a conventional primer that forms a soft intermediate film the basecoat must cover and protect, Duoprime® M co-cures with the next coat into one monolithic coating. The result is typically +1 N scratch resistance for the complete system (EN 438-2) and 5–20 g/m² less basecoat, on the same line with the same coater and UV lamps. Verified across all common melamine laminate types — CPL, LPL, HPL and TFL — with robust adhesion across panel batch variations. Duoprime® M comes in two variants with identical chemistry and line settings: M1825, which is Nordic Swan compatible, and the lower-viscosity M1834.

How Duoprime M works

01  APPLY 1–3 g/m²

Roller-applied on the clean laminate — Mitex roller 30–50 in reverse with doctor blade. No sanding.

02  UV-ACTIVATE

Undoped full-spectrum Hg lamp, 500–700 mJ/cm² measured in UVA. The surface stays wet: the melamine is now acrylate-reactive.

03  TOP COAT + CURE

Apply the compatible coating system directly. It co-cures with the activator into one monolithic layer — no soft primer film to protect, so 5–20 g/m² less basecoat.
