Back-side priming of PET foil for furniture lamination

Furniture foils are glued to MDF or wood with PU adhesives, and the back of a PET foil bonds as badly as the front. Duoprime® PET primes both sides with one product.

A furniture foil has two adhesion problems: the lacquer or print on the front, and the PU adhesive — PUR hot-melt or PU dispersion — that laminates the back to MDF or wood. Pre-treated film solves one side at a time, at a premium.

Duoprime® PET does both. On the front it anchors UV lacquer and print; on the back it promotes bonding of the PU adhesive to the film. Both sides are primed the same way — gravure coater, warm Hg lamp, about 100 mJ/cm² UVA — and the activation lasts, so the film can be primed on the roll and laminated later.

That leaves one primer to qualify, stock and buy, on standard untreated film instead of a pre-treated grade.
